Betwixt & Between - Hesotaro Proteus Remix - Preview by Proteus Official

It’s been a while. Just a few days ago, Proteus uploaded this banging Hesotaro remix to his SoundCloud account, and it’s a real killer take on the original. In the past I didn’t like Proteus’ industrial-ish sound, but it’s been growing on me, and I imagine this track would get the floor moving if played at an NRG event.

Finally, Proteus comments on the SoundCloud page that this track is soon to be released on Betwixt’s next album, so it seems like we can be expecting a new TOTAL DISCOMMUNICATION release in a couple of weeks if assuming it’ll be put on sale at Comiket.

Olof Gustafsson is indeed a renowned tracker artist, but Alek remade the Pinball Illusions intro track under his Paokala alias and made it sound even better than it ever did. It’s fun to hear tunes that clearly influenced Alek’s style, starting out as a tracker artist before getting to the point of playing a huge role in defining Finnish hard dance.

  1. Alek Száhala – Sunray (Unfinished Forever Edit) [play/download]
  2. Carbon Based & DJ Rx – Titor Quantum Theory [play/download]
  3. Aryx - Chaldea [preview]
  4. Betwixt & Between - point of no return
  5. Alek Száhala - Astraia

Narrowing May’s absolute top tracks down to just five proved to be extremely difficult, maybe I should start doing tens from now on. It was a busy month, and those moments there was time to sit down and enjoy beautiful melodies thus became a huge relief, to the point I was tempted to just start dancing, although that’d be a really awkward thing to do inside a train. Oh well.

On another note, the production quality of Slovenia’s new freeform producer Aryx is simply breathtaking, and I sincerely wish to see more coming from him. Other tracks that I’d have mentioned if the list was longer (this is kind of cheating), include Substanced’s Crank Cleopatra [play/download] and IAF’s Kinky [download].

  1. Alek Szàhala - Voices of Babylon
  2. Substanced - Freeform Mercury
  3. Carbon Based & DJ Rx - Biomechanoid
  4. DJ Rx - Hellfire (Betwixt & Between Remix)
  5. Ultraform - I Feel

This was intended to be published a lot earlier. I’d actually started a draft almost halfway back in June, but as things got busy with work and shit going on. Yeah, bad excuses all over again!!

Voices of Babylon was on the Proteus mix album released on Masif, so I finally got to hear it, and it’s flawless. Alek is a god at what he does, and his magic touch is still all over the place. Now I’ve got my fingers for an unmixed version to appear in the FINRG shop. Freeform Mercury is Substanced’s most intense track released yet, and it’s offered for free in the FINRG downloads section (along with a load of other recent Hybridize tracks), thanks to PlasmaDancer for spreading the word about them. Also look out for Ultraform, his track I Feel (also from the Proteus mix) mixes hard trance with a schranz-ish bass and makes for a really cool sound; definitely the darkest tunes I’ve heard from a Swedish artist. The guy’s got his first album Sense Your Mind up for free here, so checking him out won’t hurt your wallet!

Quote 23 Jun 2009 musicfreeform
The long dark nights during the winter and the 24/7 bright time during the summer time. I think that this reflects the music. We have two very different seasons and feelings that come with this… it produces different sounds and emotions when we’re making our tracks. It just felt right to do it this way. I mean, why do just dark, or uplifting, when you can embrace both styles and do them within your sounds…

Photo 20 Jun 2009 musicfreeform Recently did my very first digital music purchases, after figuring out how to use the iTunes gift card I got for Christmas. There’s a decent amount of FINRG releases up there, my first snatch was DJ Rx’s remix of the ThermalForce classic Eternalcannon. While I prefer the original, Rx has added lots of breaks and the overall feel is really cool. Alek Száhala (Dryad Machine!!!), Epyx & Cyrez and other Rx tracks were of course also on my list of stuff to get.
Guess lately I’ve been all about FINRG artists, especially Pain on Creation (although their mastering seems to be really off). Carbon Based produced some awesome shit as well. Then there’s the rest of the Hybridize crew to dig through. Good things there’s so much music to play even though the genre is really narrow!
Gonna do a June “top five tracks” type of post at the end of the month, and the number one spot is clear as the sky is blue!! …which it isn’t right now, but the point stands either way.

REDALiCE finally got the TANO*C 8th STRIKE party report up.

Was really pumped at the beginning, because Alabaster kicks off with his fantastic new tracks!

Then comes Thanatos, but what the fuck’s up with the background? Anyway, he plays a fucking Nightwish track! An arrange of his, I assume, jesus christ. He’s so into it, singing along too, haha.

Third is USAO, I can’t give a damn about his noisy shit makina.

Now there’s my minamotoya… Aaagh. Gained a bit lately? Where’d ya learn dat dance? Please stop flipping through your CDs and take DJing seriously.

t+pazolite, your music has gone down the drain lately, sry. I still love your performance style, it’s fucking insane, but please reconsider your ways.

kenta-v.ez.’s banging the floor as usual, his track played here being a lot better than the yokohAmA jumpstyle shit.

BETWIXT & BETWEEN!!!! You’re becoming more like Alek Száhala by every appearence. Goddamn awesome live version of City of Traitors is being played. Good old Betwixt boy’s never gonna let you down.

DJ TECHNORCH has some troubles getting rigged up, but he gets by and plays a track I’ve never heard before. The guy sure loves his voice manipulator. Not as hard as I expect from him.

The video ends with REDALiCE as always, and he’s spinning up the old anthem GABBA TANO*C from his akai hito days. gj, because your recent works have all been shit. Also this is the first time I’ve seen him wear anything but red, AND he’s looking a bit cooler now. Is it the money from going commercial that makes you do this, REDALiCE? じょうだんだってば。ww(In case you’re reading this.)
