Photo 7 Aug 2009 gamesnintendo Got one of these as a summer bonus from work on Wednesday; an almost brand new Nintendo DSi! Thanks, boss. Neat stuff.
The DSi’s larger size makes it better to hold, I won’t have my hand cramp up after a longer play session again. Buttons are now again clicky, unlike the mushy shit Nintendo put in the DS Lite. Console design is based off the Lite, but it’s been polished all over, and that does make a difference for the overall impression. Menus feel less like 2004, and is some kind of Wii meets DS mashup. You can reboot instead of poweroff to get back to the menu, and the console is able to detect when you insert/remove DS carts (in the menu). Then there’s the online shop, where you can download small games and apps called DSiWare, but the European offerings so far are pathetic. After some consideration I went with WarioWare: Snapped!, which can be beaten in a few minutes, but at least puts the cameras to some use. The price? 500 Points, which costs 5 EUR. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by XBLA, but that’s a lot of money for a few minutes of entertainment. On the whole I don’t really care for the cameras as I’d rather use my DSLR than a DSi when playing paparazzi.
If you’re in the market for a DS, the DSi is probably the best you’ll get, if you’re willing to lose GBA support. As for DS Lite owners, I’d say you guys should be very interested in DSiWare to justify upgrading.

Link 26 Jun 2009 gamesnintendo Yahoo Games: Innovative Nintendo game help system to debut this year»

Rather than forcing players to comb the web for cheat codes and walkthroughs, the new help system is built directly into the game. If a player gets stuck, they’ll have the option to pause play and allow the game to take over and play itself through any rough patches. Once they’re out of the woods, players can hop back in and continue playing.
SO CLEVER THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN. Now you don’t even need to play Nintendo games anymore, just put the auto pilot on. Seriously, those guys have lost all my respect.

Photo 16 Mar 2009 gamesresident evil2009 game purchase cap Resident Evil 5 inevietably became purchase number three of 2009. The release party was alright. Not spectacular, but worth attending to. Not sure if it’s possible to see clearly in this shitty picture, but there are two t-shirts I got (ugly and large sizes) and a card-like USB flash drive. The USB crap I might use. Too bad the game isn’t scary AT ALL.
Already halfway through the 2009 game purchase cap, but whatever. There are no more good games, and marketing faggots aren’t gonna trick me again.

Photo 16 Mar 2009 games2009 game purchase cap Meet purchase number two. I discovered by accident that the local store was selling Dancing Stage Universe REALLY cheap, so I just had to pick it up on the spot, even though it’s not really what I wanna play anymore. This was actually almost a month ago, I’ve been slow with the updates.

Photo 3 Mar 2009 eventsgamesresident evil What a fucking surprise! They’re holding a Resident Evil 5 release party here in Oslo at Betong on the 12th. Doors open at 20:00 and it goes on until midnight, seems like admission is free too. It’s like ten minutes away from my apartment. Gullstikka is also coming up in a couple of days, but I refuse to pay 400 NOK (~$60) to sit through some retarded award show, the RE5 event is a lot more interesting!!
Gamereactor is having a competition on their site now where you can win a limited edition copy of the game, along with VIP tickets to the release party. I don’t know what’s special about being a VIP over there, but getting the LE for free would be nice. Winners are drawn on the 9th, I’ll cross my fingers.

Photo 1 Feb 2009 2009 game purchase capgamesbanjo-kazooie my first game purchase of 2009, banjo-kazooie: nutz & ballz. it was nice price’d and then put on 20% sale, AND i had a gift card after christmas, so it ended up without me paying much. maximum five more to go this year.
the demo sucked, but it got pretty good ratings, and i’m a sucker for banjo and rare anyway.

Photo 28 Jan 2009 gamesnintendo magasinet I’ve been working on scanning one of my Norwegian Nintendo Magasinet issues, inspired by the Swedish scanning project. So far about halfway through the scanning operation itself, and after that there’s postprocessing and eventually rescanning time. Never knew magazine scans were so hard work, and luckily learned some tricks to not completely destroy the poor mag.
